Greek Authorities Rescue Migrant Boat, Twenty-Two Reported Dead
The vessel was first spotted early Friday by the EU border agency Frontex, and 26 survivors were brought to the port of Kaloi Limenes.
Survivors said the boat had originally carried 48 people when it departed from Libya six days earlier. Due to adverse weather conditions, the vessel drifted for several days, during which 22 people died and their bodies were reportedly thrown into the sea.
Authorities identified and arrested two suspected operators of the boat, both South Sudanese men aged 19 and 21, on suspicion of human trafficking as part of the preliminary investigation.
